At Tom Irwin Marine, we focus on Light Marine Construction, primarily high-quality timber docks and wood frame boathouses. From our facility and home base, in Ladysmith, British Columbia, we have built over 60 boathouses and more than 70 thousand square feet of docks since 2007.
Our skilled marine workers are at the heart of the company’s success! Construction in or near water involves specialized contractors. As that specialized contractor, we believe that great team dynamics, safety, respect for environment, and understanding our customers vision are vital to successful project outcomes.
Although our focus is light marine construction, the diverse experience of our team enables us to execute a variety of carpentry scopes, including commercial concrete forming and finish carpentry.

Our Owner and Founder.
Tom Irwin is Owner/Manager of Tom Irwin Marine. He is a craftsman and mariner who understands the challenges a harsh marine environment can have on long standing marine structures. As a Red Seal carpenter with over 35 years of experience, in both commercial wood frame construction and concrete forming, Tom is also a premier marine builder of quality docks and boathouses. He is hands on and in office, which ultimately ensures project quality assurance.
Tom’s love of recreational boating, sailing and all things ocean, led him to pursue projects in the marine construction industry and he never looked back! He has served as a Director with the BC Ocean Boating Tourism Association (AHOY BC). With roots in tourism management, he has also led the Ladysmith Maritime Society as Executive Director.
Tom feels fortunate to be doing what he loves by the water in beautiful Ladysmith, BC!

Tom believes that by showing a foundation of trust and combining the knowledge and strengths of other marine businesses, he’s providing proactive, and safety driven marine operations and maintenance for his clients. Trusted partnerships are vital to success in his business.
Tom Irwin Marine has worked closely with the Oak Bay Marine Group (OBMG) to build their docks and boathouses since 2007. OBMG operates four marinas on Vancouver Island. We are proud to be their primary source for repairs, maintenance, and capital upgrades, as they have been a premier marina operator in British Columbia for over sixty years.
We also have strong and long-standing business partnerships with both Saltair Marine Service and Enviro Float Manufacturing. We have worked together on numerous marina projects since 2006.
